David Benavidez: Canelo Alvarez Offered Insane Amount Of Money For Fight
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

David Benavidez really wants to fight Canelo Alvarez.

But he does not believe Alvarez feels the same.

According to Benavidez, Alvarez, the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion, turned down an insane amount of money offered by Premier Boxing Champions. Since, Alvarez has left PBC as his promoter.

“They were offering him $60 million,” Benavidez said in an interview with IP Combat. “And that was before a percentage of the pay-per-view buys. This guy was taking everything.”

Benavidez, meanwhile, says he agreed to his usual pay of $5 million.

“And that is $3.5 million before taxes after I pay out all my people,” he added.

David Benavidez Not Waiting On Canelo Alvarez

Benavidez continues to train and prepare for his next fight. But he is moving on from Alvarez for now.

“His actions speak a lot of words,” Benavidez told ESPN recently. “This was the biggest fight, so him parting ways with PBC, even though this fight for me and him was on the table, it just speaks volumes.

“I’m not going to be waiting on Canelo. After I fight Canelo, my career doesn’t end.”

He added that it is “frustrating” that the fight is not happening.

The 27-year-old Benavidez is 28-0 with 24 knockouts, including a November stoppage of Demetrius Andrade to retain the WBC interim super middleweight title.

Alvarez, meanwhile, is coming off a decision vs. Jermell Charlo this past September. He is 3-0 since a loss to Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight title in 2022.
