The David Benavidez next fight news appears to be set, but who will be standing opposite “El Monstruo” when he steps back inside the ring?
The reigning WBC interim light heavyweight champion will take on David Morrell, he announced on social media. Morrell won the WBA light heavyweight title in August, and both belts are expected to be on the line.
In his move up to light heavyweight, Benavidez shined. After a successful run at super middleweight, he took care of a former champion in Gvozdyk. The win marked his 29th in 29 pro fights and the fifth by decision.
Benavidez was able to utilize the same skills that helped him take out Caleb Plant and David Lemieux in recent years. He effectively avoided the power strikes of his opponent while countering at will.
Along with still holding the interim WBC super middleweight belt, Benavidez went 15-0 as an amateur. He has not lost inside the boxing ring in his career, something not many can claim in today’s age of the sport.
He has notable wins over Adonis Stevenson, Doudou Ngumbu, and most recently Isaac Rodrigues.
Early knockout power: In two of his first bouts as a pro, Benavidez displayed his incredible knockout power. Competing on the undercard of Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto II, he floored Phillip Jackson Benson in the second round. On the Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter undercard, Benavidez dropped Francy Ntetu in a meeting of unbeaten fighters in the seventh. Can he do the same to Gvozdyk on Saturday night?
Coming from a strong family of boxing, Benavidez has overcome plenty of struggles. He is the brother of Jose Benavidez Jr., a former champion.
With a deep family of boxing, Benavidez has been able to develop a strong following. He hit the ground running in the sport, winning titles at an early age. And the success has only continued for there from the monster from Phoenix.
The measure of a fighter’s success is the dollars and cents they rack up during their professional career. David Benavidez’s net worth is estimated to be around $3 million.
