After the announcement of Bivol vacating the WBC title to make Benavidez the new Title holder, Benavidez went to social media to express how he felt about this development.
“Just got the news that Bivol Decided to vacate his title, instead of fighting me. Now that makes me the WBC world champion at light heavyweight. This is not the ideal way for me to become world champion but I am now the WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, and I intend on putting in the best fight,” posted David Benavidez.
This development was quite disappointing to the fans as a Bivol-Benavidez fight would be something to enjoy. Benavidez is currently undefeated and still very young so he most likely would have been quite a challenge for Bivol.
Bivol opted to drop his title for a more lucrative deal that would see him face Beterbiev for the third time. The two have already met twice with both handing each other the only losses that they have succumbed to in their professional career.
Benavidez is rising fast; this might be quite a fright for his opponents. Bivol has decided to downplay the threat offered by Benavidez by deciding not to face the 21-year-old. Benavidez proves to be a high-risk opponent for him and so the 34-year-old has decided not to take a risk. Losing to Benavidez would affect his third encounter with Beterbiev and affect the huge payday he would receive.
Benavidez might just need to win one fight before he faces the loser or winner of the Bivol vs. Beterbiev trilogy contest. It will be realistic for one of the two to face him to try and recapture the WBC belt to become an undisputed champion once more.
Fights on Turki’s cards have proved quite lucrative as the two fighters have already made quite a package for themselves and a third time in the ring will only increase to what has already been a good business venture in terms of paydays for the two fighters.
