David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) is out for blood.
‘The Mexican Monster’ is all set for a light heavyweight tango against David Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. While the ring awaits both fighters, for what can only be described as a battle of the unbeaten, it certainly looks like Benavidez is taking the beef up a notch. He wants to dish out quite the punishment on his opponent. In fact, Benavidez has even promised a rather profound destruction of Morrell’s facial features.
Talking to TMZ Sports, he revealed that he was excited about the prospect of facing his unbeaten opponent, albeit with a rather explosive plan of action.
“I’m very excited for this fight. This is a fight that people have been wanting to see for a long, long time. I think we’ve promoted the hell out of this fight,” he said. “I’m just excited to get in there and get my hands on David Morrell. He’s been talking a lot. So now all the talk is done. We got a few days left. And I’m really excited to go in there and break his face!”
While those were incendiary words, Benavidez believes that his anger is not misplaced. The fact that Morrell thought that he could beat him made Benavidez dislike his upcoming opponent (in his own words).
The WBC interim light heavyweight champion, who has beaten prominent names at super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, considers himself “uncharted territory” for Morrell. “I’m going to put a beating on David Morrell. I’m going to let everybody know that you don’t come to my spot and disrespect me because this is exactly what could happen to you,” he said.
The Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford showdown is another mega fight that has gotten fans talking. While Benavidez had long eyed a fight against Alvarez, he was asked about his potential game plan if he ended up facing Crawford.
“To be honest with you, if I fought Terence Crawford, I would definitely use my size, my reach to my advantage,”Benavidez said in response. “Crawford is a very smart fighter, but I guess, thankfully, I’m not fighting him.”
