Derek Chisora Implores Jake Paul To Not Fight Anthony Joshua

Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) is making waves across the world of boxing. What followed an impressive victory against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KOs) was a prompt, albeit unsurprising, callout to Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs). However, heavyweight champ Derek Chisora feels like this might be a bad idea.

Chisora was recently in conversation with The Sun Sport’s Split Decision, where he delved into Paul’s career as a boxer and the prospective fights he should pursue.

“Listen, Jake Paul is doing so many great things for boxing, I don’t care what anybody says. He should fight Roy Jones next,” he said. “I would tell him not to fight Joshua. Because Joshua would actually smoke him out for the sake of it.”

Chisora praised Paul for his contributions to the sport of boxing. He even mentioned that his children were unaware of Mike Tyson until he fought Paul. However, he is adamant that Paul shouldn’t face Joshua. In fact, he wants him to face Jones and then face Floyd Mayweather. One can’t help but agree with Chisora, the size difference aside, AJ is an absolute fighting machine who is on a quest to redeem himself after his loss to Daniel Dubois.

Meanwhile, Paul had even approached Turki Alalshikh to talk about the fight. Chisora finds the whole Alalshikh situation amusing, as he had previously been vocal about not wanting to promote YouTube fights.

“I remember when Turki Alalshikh said he’s not promoting YouTube boxing,” he said. “These guys are mega Gods in the YouTube game. They don’t need anybody. Fast forward later on, he’s taking photos with Jake Paul, KSI, and Speed. He realised he can’t beat these young kids. So what do you do? You join them because they’re on fire.”

“Richter Scale Callouts”

On the other hand, Paul has the support of that fighter who many wish to see Joshua face Tyson Fury. Talking to the Ring Magazine, Fury remained confident that Paul would emerge victorious.

“I think Jake Paul knocks him out,” he said nonchalantly. “I think Jake Paul’s on the rise. I like his new heavyweight look. A bit chubby, a bit bulky, getting there. And he just did a great job over the aging Chavez Jr. He was a middleweight, but still. I like how Jake Paul calls out the full spectrum from featherweight to heavyweight. Who’d he call out, Tank and Joshua? That’s just crazy. I see Richter scale callouts.”
