Devin Haney will aim to become a three-division world champion when he takes on Brian Norman Jr. in November.
The former undisputed world champion Haney will challenge Norman Jr. for the WBO title at welterweight, aiming to conquer a third division.
Although Haney had a bout fall through with Teofimo Lopez, a bout with Norman Jr. is one that is perceived as exciting by fans. Among his 28 victories, the welterweight champion has 22 wins by knockout.
However, Norman Jr. may not be the only hard-hitting welterweight that Haney could meet, as ‘The Dream’ commented on a potential fight with Conor Benn.
Despite Haney being scheduled to take on Norman Jr. in November, the unbeaten fighter is still being asked about other opponents.
In a recent interview with The Ring Magazine, Haney was asked about a potential fight with British star Benn.
When asked, “Would you ever recognize that as a big fight?” Haney replied, “For sure, but, we got to see him back at 147 lbs.”
Haney then referenced Benn’s loss to Chris Eubank Jr. being at 160 lbs, and is hoping to see ‘The Destroyer’ return to welterweight. “If he comes down to 147 lbs, yeah [a fight is possible].”
Adding on his comments, Haney said he wants to see Benn compete in the welterweight division first, as opposed to just agreeing to fight him in the weight class. “I want him to actually fight at 147 lbs first, rather than me just hoping that he makes weight.”
Competing in a middleweight bout in his last outing, it was the first time Benn had competed in the weight class.
It was two divisions above the weight class that Benn has competed in for the majority of his career, welterweight. However, ‘The Destroyer’ has not weighed in under the 147 lbs mark since 2022.
Benn fought Chris van Heerden in 2022, competing in Manchester, England in his last bout under the welterweight limit. Winning the bout via knockout, the win increased Benn’s record to 21-0.
The British fighter racked up two more wins following his 21st fight, weighing in at 153.5 lbs and 150.5 lbs. Both wins came via unanimous decision, over Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson respectively.
For Benn’s middleweight bout with Eubank Jr., he hit the scales at 156.5 lbs.
