Eddie Hearn Confirms No Rematch Clause For Dubois-Joshua

On Saturday night, the heavyweight division once again produced a great fight in front of 98,128 in attendance at Wembley Stadium in London, UK. Daniel Dubois vs. Anthony Joshua was entertaining, and there were plenty of discussions about a rematch during the post-fight press conference, but there wasn’t any clarity on whether the fight’s contract had a rematch clause. Earlier today, Matchroom Sports’ Chairman, Eddie Hearn, confirmed to Sky Sports that there was no rematch clause, but there could still be a rematch if Turki Alalshikh desires to make it.

The news correspondent from Sky Sports asked Hearn to confirm that there was no rematch clause and that Joshua had one last fight under Riyadh Season. Hearn replied “You were quite right in what you said. We do have a final fight with Riyadh Season [Turki Alalshikh], and that could include a rematch with Daniel Dubois. Obviously from the outside, that’s one of the fights we could accept and would be willing to accept.

“But at the same time, H.E. would have to deal with Frank Warren and make sure they could look at a potential fight with us. I think, at the moment, it’s more about looking at the options for Anthony [Joshua]. I spoke to him about ten minutes ago and it’s all very fresh at the moment. Plenty of options and plenty of things to consider as well.”

Although there could be the possibility that Joshua gets the rematch with Dubois and they schedule it for December, Dubois is also a man with options. He can face Zhilei Zhang, Joseph Parker, Otto Wallin, and others instead of facing Joshua for a second time. These next few weeks will be interesting as Hearn sounds like he’s leaning more towards another opponent instead of a rematch, and fighters like Zhang are lobbying to be Dubois’ next opponent.
