It’s been 774 days since Terrence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. last fought. Errol Spence Jr. received the beating of his career and has not made a appearance in the ring ever since. But finally, we can see the former Unified Champion back in the ring soon and against someone who he’s very familiar with.
Two of Texas’ finest might finally meet in the ring. According to The Ring’s Mike Coppinger, Errol Spence Jr. and Jermell Charlo are in discussions for a showdown at 154 pounds in 2026. While a deal isn’t imminent, negotiations are reportedly moving in the right direction.

The storyline writes itself: Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) and Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) aren’t just former champions, they’re close friends. The bond between Jermell Charlo and Errol Spence Jr. always seemed unbreakable. They sparred countless rounds together, trained under the same roof with Derrick James, and built their legacies side by side as champions. Each carved out a legacy Spence as a three-belt welterweight champion, Charlo as undisputed king at junior middleweight. But today, neither holds gold. Both fighters are looking to bounce back and get back in the win column from humbling defeats.
But if Charlo’s recent social media activity is any indication, friendship may be giving way to business. A couple of weeks ago, Charlo dropped a cryptic post on Instagram an image of a lion with a shark in its mouth. For boxing fans, the symbolism wasn’t lost. Charlo’s long-embraced “Lions Only” persona combined with Spence’s “Big Fish” nickname left little doubt: Charlo is calling out Spence.
