Eubank Jr. Vs. Benn Final Picks – ‘Wins By Knockout’
PA Images/Alamy Images

Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn face off in the biggest fight of their lives on April 26, as boxing insiders gave their predictions.

Eubank arrives into the fight having to make the 160-pound limit, with a 10-pound rehydration clause. He missed the weight by the smallest of margins, raising question marks over whether he will be in peak condition. He also has to abide by a 10-pound rehydration clause as he weighs in on the morning of the fight. Benn is jumping up from 154 pounds, although he is naturally a 147 fighter. Chris Eubank Sr. has said he will not attend this fight, while Conor’s father, Nigel Benn, is in his corner. This is how insiders saw the fight playing out.

Predictions

“I said all fight week—me and Chris the first fight, you all made out that Chris can’t be hurt with a headshot. Anybody can be. There’s people with better chins being knocked out than Chris Eubank. And it was the perfect answer for what I’d done to him because it was like—you know—Chris can’t be hurt to the head, so how’d you beat him? Any man can be hurt. It’s on the chin with a 10oz glove on. And Conor might do the same to Chris, and I won’t be surprised if he does. But you’re asking me opinion—I think Chris probably nicks it on points,” Liam Smith

“This is a brilliant fight where you really can’t confidently say what is going to happen. I’ve realized what a big advantage this is, having this fight two and a half years on. Stronger emotionally, more stable, more resilient, bigger, sharper—everything. Saturday night, I believe we will win. It’s going to be tough. It ain’t going to be easy, but I believe he [Benn] wins in style on Saturday night,” Eddie Hearn

“Conor by knockout. I just think that Conor has the edge in speed, ferociousness, youth—he’s on his side. I think he’s a bigger puncher. But listen, Eubank’s a great fighter. He’s an experienced operator. It’s going to be a great fight, but I’m backing Conor to win the fight,” Sam Jones

Further Predictions

“Conor’s been fighting with world-class opponents. World-class opponents. How can you go and stop an IBF champion who’s fighting Canelo the following week [in sparring] ? I’m telling you that now. I’m more confident in this fight than me and Sr. I’m telling you,” Nigel Benn

“I initially started off with Chris, even though I wasn’t impressed with his last fight, even though I think the inactivity of Conor for the last 15 months might affect it, even though I think he’s the older fighter of the two..I’m going to wait until the weigh-in and give you my definitive answer when I see them both on the scales and see what they look like,” Johnny Nelson

“I am picking Chris Eubank Jr. to win—on points. Just to be hanging on late in the fight after repelling Benn for two or three rounds, he’ll win the first two or three. It’ll get closer at four and five. Eubank will have some success through the later rounds of the fight. And in the late rounds, maybe struggling a little bit with weight, Chris Eubank clings on in a close encounter where the Benn fans believe he’s done enough,” Gareth A. Davies
