Daniel Dubois (23-3, 22 KOs) is putting his WBO heavyweight title on the line as he faces Fabio Wardley (20-1-1, 19 KOs) again this Saturday, October 17, at The O2 Arena in London. But is he scared? Not when Wardley punches like a baby, or so says Dubois.
As he sat across from Wardley, Dubois did not mince any words as he spoke about the former’s punching power.
“He punches like a baby. He doesn’t have no power; he doesn’t punch. I didn’t feel anything,” he said. “He hasn’t got no power and he ain’t going to be able to take my punches either.”
The first Dubois vs Wardley fight was an absolute war, and the result makes Dubois’ current claim that Wardley “punches like a baby” particularly provocative. When they met in Manchester on May 9, Wardley came out explosively and seemed to have him in serious trouble almost immediately, dropping him with a right hand within the first 10 seconds. Dubois recovered, but he caught him again with another heavy right in the third round, putting him on the canvas for a second time. At that stage, Wardley had every reason to believe he could finish the job. Instead, Dubois gradually turned the fight around.
That makes Dubois‘ latest trash talk especially interesting because Wardley actually had the better start and dropped him twice. Dubois, however, insists those knockdowns did not tell him what Wardley thinks they did.
“I just know I’m going to bash him up easy. I’m going to take away what I need from that first fight. I’ve learned what I need to learn from the first fight, and I’m just ready to put it on him. I know what I’m going to do to him is going to be a lot worse. I just can’t wait,” he said.
But didn’t those knockdowns during the first fight even faze him one bit? According to Dubois, those knockdowns didn’t have the effect Wardley believed they did.
“Well, how would you respond? You just get up, and you keep fighting. It’s just early doors, whatever, I didn’t feel nothing. I just plow through it, that’s what my mentality was; just plow through it, chip away, and I did that,” he said. “He’s not good enough to adapt. He’s still going to do the same thing.”
