The heavyweight division serves up an intriguing clash this weekend in Saudi Arabia as Filip Hrgovic takes on David Adeleye, with both men looking to burst onto the elite heavyweight scene.
Hrgovic (18-1, 14 KO’s) last time out stopped Joe Joyce after rebounding from a cut stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois in 2024 for the IBF interim title. And a win here for the Croatian would see him back in the mix with some of the elite fighters in the division.
Adeleye (14-1, 13 KO’s) was last seen claiming a 6th-round stoppage of Jeamie Tshikeva for the vacant British heavyweight title, which he has since vacated. A win here would earn the biggest win of the 28-year-old’s professional career.
Filip Hrgovic – Odds 1.13
Record: 18-1, 14 KO’s
Age: 33
Height: 6ft6
Reach: 82”
Weight: Heavyweight
Stance: Orthodox
David Adeleye – Odds 5.50
Record: 14-1, 13 KO’s
Age: 28
Height: 6ft4
Reach: 76”
Weight: Heavyweight
Stance: Orthodox
Hrgovic will almost certainly try to impose his size from the opening bell, using his long straight shots to keep Adeleye at mid-range. His unorthodox style means even predictable punches can land unexpectedly, especially against a fighter who relies on being in a rhythm like Adeleye.
Adeleye’s best path to victory may be to start quickly and make it a physical battle early before Hrgovic settles into his range. However, that carries risk because pushing too hard into Hrgovic’s jab and right hand could see him walking onto a fight-ending power one-two combo.
The Brits’ hand speed and combinations could test Hrgovic’s defence. But sustaining that hard pace for 12 rounds against the more seasoned and more physical man is a tall order.
The Croatian has shared the ring with world-level names such as Zhilei Zhang, Dempsey McKean, and Daniel Dubois. Meanwhile, Adeleye’s résumé at the top level remains sparse. Hrgovic has been through tactical chess matches and physical wars. But Adeleye has yet to show he can win one against a genuine top-10 heavyweight.
I actually really like this fight on paper as I expect both men to come together in the centre of the ring and meet head on with some brute force punches. Adeleye’s explosive starts make him dangerous early, but over time, Hrgovic’s physicality, big fight experience and sharper shot selection should wear him down.
Despite the Croatian’s odds being 1.13, there is some good value to be had in the method of victory market. I like the look of Filip Hrgovic to win by KO/TKO or disqualification at odds of 2.40.
A destructive win here should put Hrgovic back in contention to face another world class operator, perhaps even a rematch with Dubois after the Brit recently lost to Oleksandr Usyk in the undisputed heavyweight title bout back in July.
