The super flyweight division has enjoyed a spike in popularity with several Japanese fighters and Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez leading the way. Looking ahead to 2025, Big Fight Weekend brings you five super flyweight boxers to watch in the coming year.

Super Flyweight: Jack Turner

Jack Turner (10-0, 9 KOs) is destroying all comers in a mostly devastating way with his ferocious all-action style. Last time out, he overwhelmed Piero Aponte, knocking him down three times for a one-round TKO victory. His trainer Joe McNally, recently spoke on the power of Turner: “He’s only small but he’s the biggest puncher I’ve got in the gym and certainly one of if not the biggest-punching super flyweight in world boxing right now.”

“El Terrier” will be back in action on March 15 against an opponent TBA.

Suzumi Takayama

Suzumi Takayama (9-0, 8 KOs) is a heavy-handed super flyweight who is fast making a name for himself, overwhelming opponents with his southpaw style. In his last fight, he suffocated the brave Isao Aoyama and finished the fight with a brutal right hook. 2025 should provide the 28-year-old southpaw with chances to make his mark in the division.

Ari Bonilla

Ari Bonilla (2-0, 1 KO) turned professional in 2024 winning both of his fights. He is a fan-friendly fighter who moves his feet well. He spins out of danger impressively when under pressure. He showcased this slickness on his professional debut against Adrian Ibarra, winning by a unanimous decision. His next fight saw him dominate and stop Nelvis Rodriguez by fifth-round TKO.

Reymart Tagacanao

Reymart Tagacanao (10-0, 8 KOs) is another super flyweight – who has showcased impressive power with eight stoppage wins thus far. He’s a fighter who looks to stay on the front foot and work off his effective jab. He’s great at mixing his shots between the opponent’s head and body, “Cebuano Assassin” looks primed for a big 2025.

Phumelele  Cafu

Phumelela Cafu (11-0-3, 8 KOs) was somewhat of an unknown quantity before his sensational split decision win against Kosei Tanaka to win the WBO super flyweight title. Cafu showed his ability to counter in this fight and time his punches well, knocking Tanaka down in round five. As reported by Dan Rafael, Cafu could defend his title against Hall of Famer Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.
