Potential superstar Floyd Schofield takes on his toughest test to date on Saturday as he faces former super-featherweight world champion Tevin Farmer in a lightweight bout on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight.
In what promises to be a fascinating clash of styles at lightweight, the 22-year-old Schofield (18-0, 12 KO’s) aims to maintain his unbeaten record against one of the trickiest operators in the division.
While Farmer (33-8-1, 8 KO’s) may be riding a three-fight losing streak, the veteran’s slick southpaw style, defensive ability, and ring experience remain a problem for anyone at lightweight, especially an inexperienced but talented Schofield.
Floyd Schofield – Odds 1.53

Tevin Farmer – Odds 2.62

Schofield enters this bout carrying the kind of hype of a future star of the sport, but his momentum took a hit earlier this year when he withdrew from a scheduled bout with Shakur Stevenson on a few days notice due to illness. While that match-up might have been too much, too soon, Schofield now has a chance to reaffirm his readiness for the elite level.
“Kid Austin” has great athleticism, sharp punching and he throws punches in bunches, making him a tough proposition for someone like Farmer that’s 12 years his senior, and on a losing streak.
However, Schofield’s true ability hasn’t really been tested yet, but someone as defensively savvy as Farmer, and one that knows every trick in the book could push the 22-year-old all the way. At 34, Farmer won’t change how he fits now, he has speed and a great boxing brain which allows him to keep fights on the outside whilst popping out his southpaw jab.
Don’t let the recent losses of Tevin Farmer fool you because he is still a serious threat to the lightweight throne. He went the distance in back-to-back thrillers with the hard-hitting William Zepeda, pushing the Mexican prospect to the brink in both fights. So although he’s on a losing streak, it’s the type of run which his stock has not dropped, even despite his age too.
Floyd Schofield will want to make a statement against an elite veteran of the division, but whilst the unbeaten American prospect has a power and athleticism advantage, Farmer’s experience is far greater and he’s survived big punchers before.
This one is only scheduled for ten rounds and over the years we’ve seen the former super-featherweight world champion steal rounds off his opponents by just throwing snappy jabs and his southpaw straight backhand then pivoting and circling off to the side to force a reset, and rinse and repeat.
I do think Schofield is a future star of the sport. Having said that, I do think his inexperience against elite opponents will show here. I’m taking Tevin Farmer to win via decision or technical decision at odds of 3.50 (Betway).
This is one of those fights where the youngster will learn a hell of a lot from a defeat against a vet, rather than taking an easier fight to protect their unbeaten record.
