Former undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev has never been known for trash talk. But with his rivalry against David Benavidez continuing to simmer, the Russian knockout artist isn’t holding back.

In a recent interview with Match TV, Beterbiev took aim at Benavidez’s fighting style, questioned the legitimacy of some of his victories, and suggested that Team Benavidez avoided a potential showdown when the opportunity presented itself. The comments add another layer of intrigue to one of boxing’s most anticipated potential matchups.

Beterbiev Questions Benavidez’s Reputation

Beterbiev made it clear that he isn’t impressed by Benavidez’s public comments or growing reputation.“Benavidez is the kind of guy who talks a lot more than he does,” Beterbiev said.

While acknowledging Benavidez’s accomplishments. Including world titles in multiple weight classes, Beterbiev suggested that the undefeated champion’s résumé may not be as impressive as many believe.

The former undisputed champion also criticized aspects of Benavidez’s in-ring style. “His boxing is dirty, and some of his victories are certainly questionable,” Beterbiev said.

Could a Super Fight Still Happen?

Despite the criticism, the possibility of a showdown between Beterbiev and Benavidez remains one of the most intriguing fights available in boxing. Both men have established themselves as elite competitors, possess aggressive styles, and have repeatedly been linked to one another over the past year.

Whether the fight eventually happens remains to be seen. For now, Beterbiev has made his feelings clear. He isn’t impressed by the hype surrounding Benavidez. He believes actions inside the ring speak louder than words outside of it. As boxing’s light heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions continue to intersect, the tension between the two stars only continues to grow.
