Former heavyweight boxing champion dead at 76

The New York Times has reported that heavyweight boxing champion, Olympian, entrepreneur, and humanitarian George Foreman has died at the age of 76.

His family announced his death on his official Instagram account. No cause was given.

Foreman first claimed the heavyweight title in his 20s and then again in his 40s. He then catapulted a household item into a must have consumers with his larger than life personality.

George Foreman returned to the ring after being away for 10 years, many questioned why he would return and if he could compete against the younger talent in boxing, much less return to the top of the boxing world again.

In 1994, Foreman managed to defeat the undefeated Michael Moorer to reclaim the heavyweight title shocking everyone in the sport.

Foreman’s impact spanned literal decades. He fought Chuck Wepner in the 1960s, battled with Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali in the 1970s, Dwight Muhammad Qawi in the ’80s and Evander Holyfield in the ’90s.

In his retirement, George Foreman parlayed his popularity to become a multi-millionaire selling his famous George Foreman Grills.

The legacy of George Foreman will live on forever.
