Frank Martin Warns Tank Davis – ‘I’m Ready To Shock The World’
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Frank Martin has said Gervonta Davis made a mistake to face him.

Davis will box Martin on June 15 in the first defense of his WBA Lightweight Title. Tank became the full champion after Devin Haney vacated and moved up to 140. Davis’ last fight was against Ryan Garcia, as he stopped him in round seven. Since then, Davis has had to deal with legal issues. He was put into prison for 44 days after violating the terms of his house arrest over a hit-and-run incident.

Now that Davis headlines PBC’s third PPV on Amazon Prime Video, it is a big stage to remind people of his skills. Tank and Martin have sparred previously. Davis showed a clip of it to Martin at their kick-off presser. Martin is an undefeated southpaw looking to get his first world title. Martin was confident at the presser, recalling how he hurt Davis in sparring. He backed himself to beat Davis, warning Tank that he had made a mistake in choosing him.

Martin On Davis

“I get the opportunity to show the world what I’m all about. I appreciate Gervonta Davis for even taking the fight. I believe they…[messed] up my taking this fight, but I do appreciate them giving me this opportunity to show the world what I’m about. I’m just ready to go out and shock the world and do what I do and what people think I can’t do,” Martin said

Martin will be Davis’ toughest test. He is a southpaw known for his slick boxing skills and good defense. He poses a different test to Davis’ other opponents, who are usually defensively suspect. Martin also showed in his last fight against Artem Harutyunyan that he does fight stronger down the stretch. Martin was behind on the cards, only for his opponent to take a knee.

Can Martin Do It?

That was enough for the scorecards to go in Martin’s favor as he remained undefeated. However, it is important to bear in mind that this is Martin’s biggest test. He could have fought Shakur Stevenson for the WBC Lightweight Title. While a deal was reportedly in place, Martin pulled out to choose Davis.

The pressure is on to deliver on the biggest stage, especially since Shakur did not perform well in his last fight despite winning the belt. A win over Davis makes Martin a PPV star. He is also Ryan Garcia’s stablemate, which could provide him with valuable lessons in tackling this fight. Michel Rivera, who is targeting the winner, expects Davis to beat Martin.

“Davis should beat him. I don’t think Martin has what it takes. A better fight would be me against Tank. I would love to fight that [Martin] clown again. They know what they did. I would love to run that back and show the world what Michel Rivera at 100 per cent would do against him,” Rivera stated
