Fundora Demolishes Booker In Four Rounds
Andy Abeyta/The Desert Sun / USA TODAY NETWORK

Sebastian Fundora stopped Chordale Booker in the fourth round to retain his WBC and WBO Junior Middleweight Titles.

It was the first successful defense of his belts, which he acquired after beating Tim Tszyu last year in a split decision. It was all one-way traffic, as Fundora established his jab early on. He backed it up with his right hook as he continued to land in the early rounds. Fundora found major success in the third round. He let fly with his combinations, landing a left followed by a combination. He also got through with an uppercut and a right to end the third strongly. It was only a matter of time before the fight was over. And so it showed in the fourth.

A left hand snapped Booker’s head as blood was pouring from his nose. Fundora landed a left, followed by a double uppercut. The pressure was enough to send Booker down. While he beat the count, Fundora backed him up and let off more left hands as the referee stopped the fight. The CompuBox numbers showed just how dominant Fundora was in this fight.

He connected with 79 punches, 50 of which were power shots. Fundora threw a total of  361 punches, while Booker only landed 37 punches in this fight. He was always going to face an uphill task with those numbers. Fundora then called out the IBF Junior Middleweight Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev. He also made reference to his WBO mandatory, Xander Zayas, who is undefeated with a 21-0 record.

Reaction

“I’ve felt ready this whole time since my last fight. I’ve worked very hard this past year to be ready. Now, I’ve successfully defended my two titles, and the sky’s the limit. I showed the fans that I’m a powerful fighter. I’ve always been a powerful fighter, and I showed it even more tonight,” Fundora said

“We didn’t even bring a southpaw into camp. It was just about catching his footwork. He didn’t want to trade at all, so we just broke him down to the body, and when I hurt him in the third round, it slowed him down a lot,” Fundora added
