WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora boxes Keith Thurman on Saturday, as we preview this upcoming fight.
Fundora enters this bout at the peak of his powers. In his most recent appearance in July 2025, he delivered a career-best performance, stopping Tim Tszyu in the seventh round to retain his WBC belt. For Thurman, this represents perhaps his last chance to reclaim a major world title in a career defined by frustrating layoffs. Despite his age (37), “One Time” has looked sharp in his recent outings, securing a victory over Mario Barrios and a stoppage of Brock Jarvis in 2025. A win for Thurman would make him a two-division world champion and set up a potential mega-fight at 154 in a unification.
“I’m going in there to rip his head off just like he’s going in to do mine. He’s just another opponent to me when it comes to the ring. After the fight is over, you know, shake his hand…Boxing’s kind of different in that way where you going to see your past hero and you’re going to have to slay him yourself,” Fundora said
“This will definitely solidify me as a Hall of Famer. This is just a beautiful opportunity. The last time I held a world title was in 2019. I don’t think anyone from that generation has a story like this. “Boxing loves great comeback stories and this as a modern day story right now. This is what boxing movies are all about. It’s been done, it can be done and it’s gonna be done again. I’m looking forward to solidifying my place in boxing history,” Thurman said
Tactically, expect Fundora to use his jab as a barrier. Because he is nearly a foot taller than Thurman, Fundora doesn’t need to chase; he simply needs to let Thurman walk into the shots. Fundora will likely focus on uppercuts and straight lefts as Thurman tries to dip inside. In the Tszyu rematch, Fundora used his long frame to lean on opponents in the clinch and sap their energy. Against a 37-year-old Thurman, this tactic could be crucial.
Thurman’s path to victory lies in his “check hook” and his ability to leap in with explosive overhand rights—a shot that gave Fundora some trouble in his previous fights. The specific tactic to watch for is Thurman’s body work. Because Fundora’s midsection is such a massive target, Thurman will likely aim for that. If he can land significant shots to Fundora’s ribs, he might force the champion to drop his guard or slow his output.
