Fury Saddened By Wilder’s Decline – ‘A Shadow Of His Former Glory’

Tyson Fury was saddened after watching Deontay Wilder’s performance against Tyrrell Anthony Herndon.

Fury, who fought Wilder three times, stated that the former WBC Heavyweight Champion looked like a “shadow” of his former self. Wilder secured a seventh-round TKO victory over Herndon, dropping him twice. However, Fury observed a decline in Wilder’s right hand. Wilder relied more on “clubbing” rights and left hands rather than the one-punch KO. Wilder had revealed that he’d been dealing with a right shoulder problem prior to this fight. However, Fury felt Wilder was on the decline.

Fury Reacts

“I saw a clip of it. It was sad to see. And it was sad to see someone of Deontay Wilder’s ferocious and ferocity and all of that thing. Just a shadow of his former glory. I’m sad, and I knocked the b**** out twice. So, I’m sad for him,” Fury said

Nevertheless, Wilder is not done with boxing just yet. The Bronze Bomber’s Tyrrell Anthony Herndon win was his first victory since 2022 when he stopped Robert Helenius. The win was all the more important since it was his first bout without having Malik Scott by his side. Wilder showed some improvements in using his jab, but it was still a long way away from the man who was once the most-feared heavyweight in the division.

Wilder’s Future

Wilder has stated he wants some tune-ups, which he hopes can prepare him for a potential Anthony Joshua fight. Eddie Hearn has suggested a fight with Dave Allen first before targeting AJ. Allen secured a fifth-round stoppage against Johnny Fisher in his last fight, taking their rivalry to one apiece. A trilogy has been mentioned, although Allen wants the biggest fights, as Wilder’s name was mentioned. The fight may also gave Wilder the chance to box in the UK, as there were still options available for the American.

“Having Deontay Wilder around is fantastic. When you talk about the heavyweight division, he’s definitely one of the top 10, probably even top 5. Hopefully, he’s got his confidence back. Our guy, Dave Allen, wants to jump in there with him. That works. It looks like Wilder is looking to have a few fights just to get back in, and Dave might be the guy, and he might be the guy for the big banana skin. If he goes out and beats TKV [Jeamie Tshikeva], he’s really going to put himself in for Wilder,” Hearn said
