For years, Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua was the fight British boxing couldn’t make. Now it has a date, a venue and 80,000 sold tickets. Fury and Joshua meet Friday, Dec. 11, at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, live on Netflix.
The demand is clear. More than 500,000 fans queued for tickets, and the stadium sold out in about an hour. For dates, ticket prices and everything else on the fight, see Athlon’s Fury vs. Joshua hub.
The question is less whether fans want it and more why it’s happening now, and who wins.

The simplest answer is that the obstacles are gone. Neither man is chasing undisputed status anymore. Oleksandr Usyk beat both of them, then vacated his remaining titles in June. With no unified champion to chase, Fury and Joshua no longer need to protect a route to the top. Each of them is now the biggest available fight for the other.
The money also lines up. The fight is promoted by Turki Alalshikh’s The Ring with Dana White, and the two fighters are expected to share a purse close to $200 million, the BBC reported. With that kind of backing, the arguments over splits, networks and promoters that kept the fight apart for years don’t come up.
Time matters too. Fury is 38 and Joshua is 36. Wait another two years and the fight starts to look like a nostalgia act. Both men still have recent wins to sell it, so this is the last window where it can still be a peak-level heavyweight fight.
