Ryan Garcia is open to facing off against Jaron Ennis if he gets past Rolando Romero on May 2.
Ryan prepares to make his boxing comeback following his year ban after he failed VADA tests for Ostarine against Devin Haney last year. The ban prevented the biggest win of his career after he dropped Haney three times to secure a majority decision victory. The result was subsequently turned into a no-contest, leaving Garcia with an uphill task to save his reputation.
He maintained that he had not taken any substances, while his legal team revealed that the amount in his system was not enough to enhance performance. Ryan has the opportunity to banish those demons by securing a statement win against Romero, after which he is on course to rematch Haney. After he had initially beaten Haney, Garcia’s team was asked about the prospect of an Ennis fight.
Boots is the unified welterweight champion, who is undefeated with a 34-0 record. 30 of those wins are by way of knockout. He has just secured the biggest win on his resume by stopping Eimantas Stanionis in the sixth round to become the WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine Welterweight Champion.
Ennis has eyes on becoming undisputed at 147, meaning that Mario Barrios and Brian Norman Jr. are in his sights. However, neither of those fights would be as big as a Ryan one from a commercial point of view. Garcia has shown that he can sell big events, having generated over 1.2 million PPV buys for his Gerovnta Davis fight. His fight against Haney also captivated the boxing world as his social media following increased exponentially, going over 1 million followers on X.
It is a fight that would be competitive since Ryan would be fighting a weight class that is much more natural to him. He admitted that he was weight-drained for the Tank Davis fight, which required him to make a 136-pound catchweight with a 10-pound rehydration clause. Ryan also failed to make the junior welterweight limit for the Haney fight. A fight against Ennis at 147 would be an intriguing match-up.
“100%. Another big fight, another mega event. It’s what I like to do so I don’t shy away from anybody willing to do that, too. He looked good (last weekend). I think Stanionis is a perfect fighter to look good for, obviously he’s there to get hit a lot, not a lot of defense, but Boots did what he had to do and he looked great doing it.
“I look forward to great competition in the future. He does (get hit with punches). I mean but he’s a big boy, though so he’s taken ‘em well so far but in this sport it only takes one good one. I’m much more snappier than Stanionis. I’m way more ferocious than that guy so it could be a lot (for him to handle). You never know in the ring. Some people can take good shots, some people can’t so you just have to see when you get in the ring,” Garcia said
