Ryan Garcia has set his sights on Teofimo Lopez as his preferred opponent following his stoppage win over Conor Benn earlier this month.

The newly crowned WBC welterweight champion told ESPN that Lopez tops his wish list for his first title defence, though he acknowledged interest in facing Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, and Gervonta 'Tank' Davis as well. The Benn victory, which came by way of knockout, positioned Garcia as one of the division's marquee attractions and gave him leverage to pursue any of those matchups.

Why Lopez Makes Sense For Garcia's Next Fight

Lopez represents the most logical step for Garcia at 147 pounds. The former unified lightweight champion has campaigned at junior welterweight and welterweight since moving up, and a clash between the two would unify fan interest across weight classes. Garcia's team reportedly views the fight as more achievable than bouts with Stevenson or Davis, who compete at lighter weights and would require one fighter to move.

Haney, who lost to Garcia in their controversial April meeting, remains another possibility if the rematch clause is triggered. Garcia's camp has not ruled out running it back, though the Lopez fight appears to be the priority. A decision on Garcia's next opponent is expected within the coming weeks as his team fields offers.
