On May 2 Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) will return to professional boxing following the conclusion of his one-year ban for two failed drugs tests. He will face Rolly Romero on the much-anticipated “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves” card in Times Square, New York. As we begin the build-up George Groves has delivered his brutal verdict on “Kingry” when speaking to Crowns Gym.
Garcia was last seen in the ring when he memorably beat Devin Haney, shocking the boxing world. He scored multiple knockdowns against Haney, which was even more surprising after his behaviour in the build-up which saw him miss weight.
News broke after the fight that Garcia had failed a VADA pre-fight and post-fight drug test, with Ostarine found in his urine. Garcia’s behaviour was cause for concern for many months with alarming social media posts. Eventually, the fight was declared a no-contest, with the Victorville native accepting a one-year suspension retroactive to the fight date. In addition, he also agreed to forfeit his base salary of over $1 million.
When asked about Ryan Garcia and his return on May 2, Groves did not hold back: “Garcia is a bit of a poser and he’s a cheat, so I have got no time for him. Sure, he’s got a load of followers on Instagram and he is a handsome lad but he’s ignorant. He says stupid things and he gets caught doping and he’s okay with that but that’s not okay with me. So I’d like to see him get beat.”
Haney is an exceptional fighter. At times he doesn’t quite pull it off and sometimes you are just battling a popularity contest. And for some reason Garcia, at times wins it.”
