On March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs). This fight will be the main event of a Prime PPV card. In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets as well as PPV.com. Ahead of March 1, all fighters on the card appeared at a media workout and “Tank” spoke about his upcoming fight against Roach and revealed his desire for a more active 2025.
Davis returns to action for the first time since his impressive KO win over Frank Martin. Roach defeated Feargal McCrory in his previous fight, retaining his WBA super-featherweight title. “Tank” will walk into the ring as the overwhelming favourite and understandably so.
At the media workout at the Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, Davis reflected on fighting at the Barclays Center again, and how his training camp in Washington DC has gone: “The atmosphere at Barclays is always amazing. I won my first championship here and I’m just excited to come back here to put on a great performance.
“Training in DC was great. It was fun. It brought the amateur style back.”
Looking ahead to March 1 against Roach: “Roach is in for a rude awakening, for sure. He’s trying to psyche himself up, but it comes down to skill. Whoever is the most skilled fighter will be the winner,” said Davis.
“Knocking someone out feels like a home run, when it hits the sweet spot of the bat, and it goes far. That’s how it feels for me.”
“I want to stay in the ring more this year, hopefully with three fights. Roach comes first, and then we figure it out the rest of the way, said Davis when talking about activity in 2025.
“You’ll see fireworks. I’m sharp, fast and explosive. Lamont is sharp too. It’s going to be a banger, and the fans will be the true winners this Saturday night.”
