Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is back in the headlines, but not in a good way.

News broke out early on Friday that Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) was arrested for having an outstanding warrant in Miami, FL, for an alleged battery that took place on June 15 (Father’s Day). Davis was in an altercation with the mother of his two children, leading to Davis allegedly putting his hands on her.

According to a police report obtained by Local10.com, “Davis told his ex-girlfriend to remove their children from his car as he no longer intended to take them, but when she leaned forward to retrieve their daughter from the backseat, Davis struck her in the back of the head and then slapped her in the face, causing a minor cut to the inner area of her lip.

Police said the victim then sent a text message to her mother, informing her that Davis was assaulting her and asking her to come outside. The victim’s mother then exited the residence and saw her daughter visibly distressed and crying while arguing with Davis, the report stated.

According to the report, the victim’s mother filmed part of the altercation on her cellphone, which showed Davis throwing a small box at the victim.

Is The Tentatively Scheduled Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. 2 Fight Now In Jeopardy?

For a few months now, the word going around boxing was that the rematch between Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-2, 10 KOs) was going to take place on August 16 in Las Vegas, NV. When the proposed fight date reached 10 weeks (typically when a fight is announced and tickets go on sale), there was no fight announcement. Okay, maybe they wanted to wait, so I posed the question on X. Matt from Brunch Boxing replied and said PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) typically announces fights eight weeks out. So, another two weeks passed, and no announcement.

Then, FightsATW was told that the announcement was imminent and that, worst case, it would be announced on Manny Pacquiao vs. Mario Barrios fight week, which would be just four weeks from the August 16 date. Now, with this recent news about Davis, the fight date is in jeopardy of being rescheduled or canceled altogether. There is no timetable on when Davis’ latest incident will be decided, and I assume Roach would want to get back in the ring as soon as possible. So what happens next?

According to sources, questions about the future of the Davis-Roach rematch have not been settled, given that the news is still fresh. With 30 days remaining, it seems highly unlikely that the fight will happen on August 16. If it gets rescheduled, I have to imagine it goes maybe on September 20, as PBC currently has a hold at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV for that date. If not, then we are looking at October or November. Of course, this is all depending on Davis’ situation. This isn’t the first time Davis has gotten into legal trouble in Florida, so let’s see how this all plays out and what it means for the future of the WBA lightweight champion.
