'He Could Get Knocked Out!' Ryan Garcia Boldly Predicts Canelo vs. Crawford

The highly anticipated super middleweight clash between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is set for September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with all four belts on the line. Crawford, moving up three weight divisions to challenge at 168 pounds, faces a big task ahead of him going up against the naturally bigger Canelo, who has dominated the division for years.

The fight has divided boxing experts and enthusiasts, with some, like Stephen A. Smith and Amir Khan, praising Crawford’s technical brilliance. Others, however, are questioning whether his skills can overcome the size disadvantage.

Ryan Garcia, who formerly trained alongside Canelo under Eddy Reynoso, firmly believes Crawford stands little chance against the Mexican superstar.

"I don't see [Crawford beating Canelo] happening, but he could definitely prove me wrong," Garcia told FightHubTV

Garcia pointed to Canelo’s ability to bully heavier opponents, stating, "I've trained with Canelo, I've been around him. Bro can really push back heavyweights."

He emphasized Canelo’s physical advantages going into the matchup against Crawford, noting, "This is the first time Canelo is actually bigger than someone in a long time. So it's like, the weights are lifted off and he can fight even more freely."

Garcia also critiqued Crawford’s defense, suggesting the Nebraska native will likely have trouble dominating Canelo.

"When you have two great fighters, great things can happen. But I could see Crawford getting knocked out like Amir Khan style,” Garcia said, referencing Canelo’s brutal 2016 KO of Khan.

He speculated that Crawford might attempt a defensive approach, but doubted its effectiveness.

"I think Crawford's going to try to implement kind of like what Floyd did, kind of stand your ground a little bit,” Garcia said, referencing Floyd Mayweather’s win over Canelo. “But he doesn't have the same defense as Floyd, that's the thing."

Despite Crawford’s elite boxing IQ, Garcia questioned whether he could sustain his strategy over 12 rounds.

Garcia was honest in his assessment, saying, "I don't know how [Crawford's] going to be consistently beating Canelo throughout the rounds, I mean, unless he uses his legs and tries to outpoint him.”

He also raised concerns about Crawford’s adjustment to the higher weight class.

"How can he react to the new weight? Sometimes you're slower. It's going to be kind of interesting to see how Crawford adjusts and how fast his hands move. That's one of Crawford's great assets is his hand speed and his timing, and when you're a little heavier, that affects you."

However, not everyone agrees. Amir Khan, the only fighter to face both men, has backed Crawford, citing his boxing intelligence and power.

Still, Garcia remains supportive of Canelo, saying, "I can't wait for the fight. I'm definitely going to be backing Canelo, but Crawford is a great fighter, and he could surprise me. Right now, where I'd put my money is Canelo Alvarez."
