Hrgovic Vows To Beat Up Dubois – ‘You’re Going To Sleep’

Filip Hrgovic has backed himself to beat Daniel Dubois on June 1.

Hrgovic is the current IBF Interim Heavyweight Champion. This makes him mandatory for the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk, who has just beaten Tyson Fury. Under the IBF rules, the champion must face their mandatory or be stripped. This means Usyk must face him or be stripped. But the Ukrainian has a rematch clause with Fury, who has since then activated it.

If Usyk is stripped, Hrgovic will fight Dubois for the full title. However, Usyk’s team has applied for an exception, which could prevent the IBF from stripping him. This is because boxing fans had not witnessed an Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield. Either way, Hrgovic is ready to put on a show, even if Dubois fancied his chances.

Hrgovic On Dubois

“I see big biceps but I don’t see big balls. You don’t fight with biceps, you fight with balls and the heart. Let’s put it to sleep. I can’t wait. I want you to be like that so I can conquer you. You should be aggressive. You should come forward, and I conquer you, and you’re going to sleep,” Hrgovic said

“You’re going to find out about that. Let’s put it to sleep. No way. I’m ready for him. I’m ready to put on a show and put him to sleep. I’m 100% confident and ready for this opportunity,” Dubois stated

Hrgovic has shown that he is willing to dig deep to get the wins. He survived a knockdown to beat Zhilei Zhang in 2022 via a unanimous decision. This was even though most of the boxing community felt Zhang should have been given the win.

Hrgovic followed that up with another 12-round struggle, stopping Demsey McKean in the last round to win. Hrgovic’s last fight was a first-round TKO win over Mark De Mori. But De Mori is 41 and not a big name, leaving very little to say about that performance. Dubois has had questions over his heart. He took a knee in his fights against Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk, getting stopped.

Dubois’ Chances

There was a perception that Dubois would look to quit in the toughest moments. He faced Jarrell Miller in his previous fight with this career potentially on the line. Miller entered the ring over 300 pounds, as the early rounds suggested Miller would overpower Dubois. But Dubois boxed smart, using his jab to wear Miller down. He eventually stopped Miller in round 10, winning much praise. He was clear that he had answered his doubters.

“I had to dig deep. Big Baby, he came to work, but I showed my heart. I’m a prideful fighter and I always want to come forward, but I’m learning new things. I had my dad screaming in my corner; I knew I had to work. I had to prove it to myself that I am a real fighter and I can be a real champion. “I had to finish strong. Any confidence missing, I gained it tonight. Big respect, Big Baby,” Dubois revealed

“Daniel is no quitter. I’ve been out of the ring and we took this fight on four weeks’ notice, but we back in the ring, and we gonna be active [going forward]. Triple D, you got my respect. All respect. Nothing but love,” Miller added
