‘I Don’t Think That’s True’: Eddie Hearn Opens Up About Usyk’s Broken Jaw
Jon Durr-USA TODAY Sports

The ‘Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) recently suffered the first loss of his professional career against the current undisputed heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs). Post the fight, Fury revealed that he had broken Usyk’s jaw during the fight—an injury which he claimed sent Usyk to the hospital. On the other hand, boxing promoter and Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn believes this injury might only be a reality in Fury’s mind.

Fury was talking on Matchroom Boxing’s official YouTube channel. In conversation, Hearn was all praise for Usyk’s performance and even said he’d be interested in seeing a rematch between Usyk and Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs). Hearn further mentioned that he believes Fury provided wrong information after the fight. “Tyson Fury said Usyk broke his jaw; I don’t think that’s true, but it was a high-maintenance fight,” he said.

Moreover, he added that Fury deserves to take a break after the intense showdown.

“Don’t forget, Fury’s come out of the [Francis] Ngannou fight [in October], gone into camp for the first date. That was postponed, he got cut, he stayed in camp. He’s trained for a long time. I don’t think Tyson Fury is gonna be over the moon with five or six weeks off, but that’s the obligation, there’s a lot of money,” he said.

Hearn stated that in the event that Usyk is injured, he’d actually be interested in seeing a fight between Fury and Joshua.

“He’s Got Nothing To Prove”

With Fury suffering a devastating loss, there have been talks about the possibility of a rematch with Usyk. Boxer-turned-boxing analyst Carl Froch, however, revealed why there is absolutely no reason why Usyk should face Fury again.

“He’s got nothing to prove. He’s beaten AJ twice. He’s now beaten Tyson Fury. He is the generational great for me. Usyk is the man. He is the leader of the pack,” he said while talking at talkSPORT’s ‘The Verdict.’

“In my opinion, he should retire, he’s done everything he needs to do, he’s made enough money, he’s mastered the game, he’s completed boxing.”
