Heavyweight boxing has been enjoying a renaissance since Turki Alalshikh became involved. Since His Excellency entered the boxing world, we have seen Anthony Joshua comprehensively defeat Otto Wallin before blowing away Francis Ngannou, who almost defeated Tyson Fury. Dillian Whyte is another heavyweight who has been in the mix and fought AJ and Fury in the past before a recent drugs scandal kept him out of the ring before he was cleared to return and resume his career – which he did in an easy comeback win in three rounds against Christian Hammer. In an interview with Matt Lenihan at Boxing Social, Whyte has received a call out from Otto Wallin.
Whyte and Wallin were scheduled to fight on October 30, 2021, at The O2 Arena in London, England. The fight never went ahead after “The Body Snatcher” sustained an injury in training. It appears the Swedish southpaw wants to finally face Whyte and fancies his chances against the Brit.
When asked about his future plans and ideal opponent – with Whyte mentioned in the question: “Dillian Whyte is the perfect name, I think. I want to fight him, and you know – he’s coming back now. We have a little bit of history with the other fight he pulled out of,” said Wallin.
He continued: “I would love to fight him. I think he is a great opponent for me. The right time. I would love that fight.”
Wallin was asked how he sees a potential fight with Whyte playing out – and if he can stop him: “Yeah, I think so. I think that it’s a great style for me. He’s not the fastest guy, pretty slow on his feet. I think as long as I can use my advantages. I take him to school I think.”
It remains to be seen what level in heavyweight boxing Whyte can return to, and following the win over Hammer, he discussed loyalty and being prepared to fight anyone: “It’s the game. I’ve got 14 dogs. That’s where I expect my loyalty from. My dogs are the only things that’s loyal to me in this life.”
“The Body Snatcher” was asked about Joe Joyce, Joshua and anyone else he might like to fight, Whyte said: “Anyone. I’ve never turned a fight down, whoever wanted it could get it.”
