‘I Want To Get It Back In Blood’: Devin Haney Opens Up About The Ryan Garcia Lawsuit
Henrietta Wildsmith/The Times

It’s been over a year since the disastrous fight between Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs). While Garcia has been hoping that the boxing community and fans will gradually forget about the failed drug tests, it still remains fresh in Haney’s mind. However, he might have a few plans for vengeance, as he revealed that he has dropped the lawsuit against Garcia.

Haney recently appeared on the Ariel Helwani Show , where he mentioned that he wasn’t especially interested in taking legal action against Garcia. “I would say that my team was behind the lawsuit. That wasn’t something I wanted. I’m a fighter; I want to get it back in the ring. I want to get it back in blood, and that was my mindset from the start to the end. I’ve always wanted to do a rematch,” he said.

Haney admitted that it was a “f*cked up situation” for him and his team, as they had gotten the short end of the stick after the Garcia fight. Additionally, it also cost him many opportunities and money facing Garcia. However, despite all this he wasn’t very keen on filing a lawsuit. In fact, he mentioned that he wanted to settle it inside the ring like a fighter. Itching to get inside the ring, a rematch against Garcia is currently the most important thing on Haney’s agenda.

“I’m a fighter, and I want to get it back in the ring. The businessman and the business side of me says, ‘Oh, we need to capitalize on the situation because of this and that,’ but the fighter trumps everything. Like I said, the most important thing for me is making sure we do the rematch,” he said.

“There’s Animosity”

While he may not be pursuing any legal action, Haney has made it clear that they aren’t friends. During the same podcast, he revealed that he still holds a grudge against Garcia for ‘cheating’ him. “Of course, there’s animosity toward Garcia. I was cheated. I didn’t have a fair fight. It was f*cked-up. But it’s business at the end of the day. So yes, it’s animosity, but at the end of the day, we’ve got to come together to make a fight happen, no matter what. Are we friends? No. Will we talk to make a fight happen? Yeah,” he said.
