The IBF has officially ordered unified light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol 24-1 (12 KOs) to defend his title against mandatory challenger Michael Eifert, marking the second attempt by the sanctioning body to secure a world title opportunity for the German contender.
Eifert, who earned his mandatory position with a standout win over Jean Pascal, was previously in line to face Artur Beterbiev. However, he agreed to a step aside deal that allowed Beterbiev to move forward with his rematch against Bivol an anticipated superfight to unify the division and settle their growing rivalry.
Now, with the trilogy bout between Bivol and Beterbiev still in talks, the IBF is once again pushing to get Eifert his title shot. The development complicates plans for the undisputed showdown, unless another step aside deal is reached or Bivol chooses to vacate the IBF title to proceed with the bigger fight.

Without a doubt Michael Eifert is a skilled and polished boxer. With solid fundamentals and a growing resume. He earned his place as the IBF mandatory challenger. Eifert has been very patient. His time is now in his eyes. However, despite his technical ability, Eifert lacks the punching power or marquee appeal that typically defines championship level headliners.
As deserving as he is. Eifert now finds himself in the unenviable role. Of standing in the way of what fans and boxing history demand. The much awaited trilogy fight between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev to determine the undisputed light heavyweight champion of their era.
