Daniel Dubois has been at the receiving end of backlash following reports that he was involved in a pre-fight party on Saturday night.
The British heavyweight supposedly had a social gathering hours before his knockout loss to Oleksandr Usyk with up to 70 people.
Johnny Nelson was among the people who slated Dubois, before the coach of ‘DDD’ defended his fighter.
The trainer said that the gathering was also something that Dubois did for his fight with Anthony Joshua. Now, Dubois‘ promoter has had his say on the incident.
Queensberry Boxing promoter Frank Warren has now commented on his fighter’s pre-fight party ahead of his loss to Usyk.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Warren was asked for his opinion on the incident that allegedly transpired on Saturday afternoon.
“I’m going to tell you truthfully,” Warren said. “What my concern was is the time that he got to the venue. That’s my concern.”
Dubois arrived to Wembley Stadium approximately an hour and a half before his scheduled ring walk.
When asked if he felt the party had an impact on the result, Warren said, “I don’t know. But, had some other things been done a different way, at least you would have felt more comfortable that he’d gone in there, as far as I’m concerned, the best he could.”
Despite questioning if Dubois was mentally in the right place in the fight, Warren ultimately attributed the result to the quality of Usyk.
Derek Chisora was one of the fighters who felt Dubois may have quit in the bout with Usyk.
When asked what his feelings were regarding the comments from Chisora, Warren said that he ‘didn’t like’ the opinion from the heavyweight veteran.
Following this, Warren revealed Dubois’ trainer said, ‘If you think he’s a quitter, then fight him.’
The promoter added, “What a good fight it would be between the two of them,” referring to Chisora vs Dubois.
