Jack Catterall Believes That Josh Taylor Has ‘Reached His Peak’
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Jack Catterall (28-1, 13 KOs) is gearing up for his long-awaited rematch against the former undisputed light welterweight champion, Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs). Their last fight was controversial, to say the least, pushing many fans to call for a rematch. With days remaining for the showdown, Catterall, who often accused Taylor of running away from a rematch, shared a few intriguing thoughts about his opponent.

The duo recently sat down for their Face Off, meditated by Ade Oladipo. There is no denying that the vibe in the room was temperamental. Oladipo then broke the ice by asking Catterall about his thoughts on the upcoming fight. “It’s a relief that the fight is signed now. Two years we’ve cornered him, we’re in a position where the date and venue is set, and we can settle it,” Catterall said. Taylor was last seen losing his WBO and The Ring light-welterweight titles to Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KOs) in 2023, his only fight after previously fighting Catterall in 2022.

Oladipo revealed that he still believes that Taylor is one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in Britain. He further asked Catterall about his thoughts on which level he thinks Taylor is at. In response, the Englishman wasted no time in taking a dig at ‘The Tartan Tornado,’ stating that he is well past his days of glory.

“We look at his last fight against Lopez; he got done off. I said it yesterday, and I say it again: I think he’s touched the ceiling, he’s on the decline. No mistake, I’ll be preparing for the best version of him. But do I think he’s reached his peak? I do,” he said. On the other hand, Taylor believes he still has the fire burning inside him. He also mentioned that a bad performance does not define his caliber as a fighter.

“Not Interested”

This was not the first time Catterall had openly taken digs at Taylor, and it has certainly gotten to the point of not having any desired effects on him. “I’m not interested in what Jack’s got to say. He’s proved to be a bit of a plank – he’s not got much between his ears. There’s nothing that makes me concerned because he’s not got the intelligence or the wit to wind me up,” Taylor said in an interview. “He’s boring so I’m purely just concentrating on the fight now.”
