In a bout that started quietly but ended in chaos. Jack Catterall earned a technical decision victory over fellow Brit Harlem Eubank on Saturday night in Manchester, headlining a Matchroom/DAZN card.

While expectations leaned toward a tactical affair. Between the seasoned technician and the rising prospect, the fight took a dramatic turn in round six, when a clash of heads left both fighters badly cut Catterall above his left eye, and Eubank with a gash over his right.

With both fighters bleeding heavily and the ringside doctor ruling them unfit to continue, the fight was sent to the scorecards. Judges scored it in favor of Catterall, who was ahead at the time of the stoppage and improved his record to 31-2 (13 KOs).

Eubank, now 21-1 (9 KOs), was stepping up in class and showed composure throughout, but was ultimately outboxed by Catterall’s cleaner work in the early rounds.

Coming in as a 3-to-1, favorite Catterall controlled the pace of the fight. With his clean boxing fundamentals, sharp counterpunching, and superior ring IQ. Eubank, the cousin of Chris Eubank Jr. Showed flashes of athleticism and heart. But struggled to find a rhythm against Catterall’s well schooled southpaw style.

Redemption and possible title shot

T his victory marks an important bounce-back for Catterall. Whose last outing saw him lose a razor-thin decision to Arnold Barboza Jr. Snapping a four fight win streak that included standout victories over Josh Taylor (in their rematch) and Regis Prograis. The win also reinforces Catterall’s case as one of the top contenders at 147 lbs.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is campaigning for Catterall to get a title shot immediately.

“Jack is going to be looking for a big fight at 147 now,” Hearn told reporters. “He’s going to be ranked in the top 10 in both governing bodies IBF and WBA at welterweight. The division is red hot right now. You’ve got some tremendous fighters.”
