Two of Britain’s finest welterweights clash in a 12-round bout on Saturday night in Manchester as Jack Catterall faces the unbeaten Harlem Eubank.

Catterall (30-2, 13 KO’s) enters the bout with a reputation as one of the trickiest fighters to look good against. As a natural southpaw with superb balance and defensive instincts, he caused all sorts of problems for Josh Taylor in their fights, but “El Gato” came up short against Arnold Barboza Jr last time out in Manchester.

Eubank (21-0 9 KO’s), the nephew of the legendary Chris Eubank Sr, has come into his own in recent years. Although he enters this bout undefeated, critics question whether he’s been tested at the level of someone like Catterall. But that’s the beauty of Saturday night because we are about to find out.

Jack Catterall vs Harlem Eubank: Analysis

I don’t really want to start this section off by saying this, but I’m going to do so anyway: this one does have the potential to be a boring affair for a casual boxing fan.

Catterall has really good timing and movement which makes him a frustrating puzzle to solve. He has a unique ability to punch between gaps just moments before his opponents set up to launch their own combination. His sharp southpaw lead hand is what often wins him rounds along with his volume.

On the other side of the ring, Eubank really has similar strengths to Catterall. He has good footwork and an educated jab, which he can shoot low from the hip. One thing I am most impressed with is his ability to turn up the pressure late in the later rounds. This could be a really important point to remember because if this fight is as close as I expect, it could purely come down to who steals the final minute of rounds.

Catterall vs Eubank: Prediction & Betting Tips

I am expecting a tactical chess match in the first half of the fight with Catterall controlling the range, but I can see Eubank rallying as the round goes on, essentially using the shoe shining tactics.

If Eubank hesitates and stays at mid-range, Catterall could outpoint him with cleaner and more frequent shots. However, Eubank for me has the better energy levels and gas tank, and that’s the reason why I’m siding with the undefeated fighter in this one.

I think this does go the distance, and Jack Catterall winning by decision at less than 1.80 is just poor value. Take Harlem Eubank to win by decision or technical decision at odds of 5.50, it’s the smart value play in this one.
