Starting in the influencer boxing scene sparked an incredible career run for Jake Paul. Four years later, Paul has undoubtedly outgrew the gimmicky side of the sport and it seems he also believes that.
While many discredit the influencer boxing setting as a stain on the sweet science, it does have its benefits. Though the competition is much lower, online celebrities are bringing new eyes to the ring and generating new fans for boxing, with 'The Problem Child' the biggest example of that.
Now, Jake Paul has surpassed the label of influencer boxer and will instead press forward as a professional. Despite some of his matchups being somewhat questionable, it's impossible to deny that his level of competition far outweighs any of his peers—including fierce rival KSI.
As he looks to take the correct steps toward his dream of one day becoming a boxing world champion, Most Valuable Promotions announced the 27-year-old's retirement from the influencer picture.
"Flashback Friday to when Jake Paul was an influencer boxer," MVP stated in a post on Instagram. "2 fights, 2-0, 2 knockouts."
"The best there was, is, and ever will be. Jake Paul is RETIRED from that sport. They need him, he doesn't need them. Hence why they said his name 400 times this past week."
"Gib is the current best in that sport."
Ali Al-Fakhri, best known as AnEsonGib, was Jake Paul's first opponent as an influencer boxer.
Paul made quick work of Gib, knocking him out in the first round and ultimately setting in motion an impressive and incredibly controversial career in the squared circle.
Since that fight on January 30, 2020, Gib has too been on a tear.
Winning each of his following five fights, the Brit secured the biggest win of his stint in the ring when he earned a majority decision victory over Sulieman Albaher (Slim) and captured the Misfits Boxing middleweight title.
