Jake Paul is reportedly close to announcing a deal to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Paul is searching for his next big fight after having beaten Mike Tyson in a unanimous decision on Netflix. Reports indicate the fight earned Paul $40 million in a bout that broke records for being the most-watched boxing event ever. Paul has been chasing more big names, having been in talks to face Canelo Alvarez. Reports indicated a fight was close, only for Alvarez to turn his focus elsewhere. He signed a four-fight deal with the Saudis, as he will face William Scull in May and Terence Crawford in September if he beats Scull. A Scull win also makes him the Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion.
“The truth is, you could be bought. You’re a money-hungry squirrel chasing your next nut. The truth is, these sports-washing, shady characters are paying you hundreds of millions of dollars to stop our fight from happening because they couldn’t fathom the fact that they can’t create a bigger fight than me and you.
“Claiming he’s not fighting YouTubers. Bulls—. Claiming he’s fighting real fighters, but he’s fighting Crawford, a 135-pound fighter, and running from a real fighter like David Benavidez. You call me a YouTuber, but you’ve never had a boxing match as big as mine. I promise you one thing, Canelo. Any fight that you do this year, mine will be bigger,” Paul revealed
Paul was also linked with a fight against Anthony Joshua. Joshua is preparing for his comeback, having been knocked out by Daniel Dubois in his last bout. Joshua has suffered an injury, with Eddie Hearn saying he will return in the summer. However, if the opportunity is available, Paul was confident that he would get the better of AJ.
“I know my boundaries. I want to fight Anthony Joshua, exclusively because I know I will f*cking beat Anthony Joshua’s a*s. Yeah [he just got knocked out] because he has no chin, he has no skill, and I love you, Anthony. We’re friends. But, I want to fight you,” Paul stated
With those two fights off the table, Chavez Jr. could be an option. The fight could be for a WBA belt, with the organization’s President, Gilberto Mendoza, having previously spoken positively about this fight.
“I will insist. I would love to see Jake Paul vs. [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr for a championship. I am just reluctant to call it an official fight. Always team Mike Tyson. I respect and am amazed by his superhuman effort facing Jake Paul. But being an Iron Mike fan, witnessing his career, and watching him struggling for eight rounds breaks my heart. Jake Paul [is] a true gentleman. The simple bowing gesture of respect made him a better boxer and showed his heart. At the end [of the day], he brought boxing to Netflix,” Mendoza said
