Jake Paul Confident About Fighting Tank Davis – ‘Almost Ready’
Anthony Behar

Jake Paul says talks with Gervonta Davis were in place as a future bout could happen.

Jake has consistently been trying to secure major fights against the top names following his recent exhibition against Mike Tyson. The fight broke records as it became the most watched streaming boxing fight ever as it aired on Netflix. The fight reportedly earned him a $40 million purse. Paul was also in negotiations to fight Canelo Alvarez on Cinco de Mayo in May. However, the Mexican pulled out of negotiations as he eventually signed a four-fight deal with the Saudis.

Jake’s Options

“Turki hates me, he hates me completely. He did everything he could to frustrate the fight. Try to make it not happen. Not only that, Jake confessed that Turki put all the pressure on Canelo, as he threatened him when rumors of their fight began to emerge: He was calling Canelo, he was calling Eddie Reynoso, basically saying, ‘Why are you doing this? Why are you doing this?’, to the point of having to threaten to cancel his three-fight contract: ‘You’re not going to fight Crawford. I’m not going to pay you any of this money. I want to fight Anthony Joshua. Exclusive! Because I know I’m going to beat Anthony Joshua… I love you, Anthony, and we’re friends. But I want to fight you,” Paul stated

Paul’s next move is unclear, but he has been linked with a bout against Anthony Joshua. Paul revealed that Joshua had called him about the possibility of making that fight happen. Joshua is currently out injured and not expected to return until the summer, leaving Paul with no choice but to look elsewhere. The Problem Child has now revealed that Tank Davis was a potential opponent.

However, following Davis’ controversial majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr., any fight may have to wait. The fight ended in a draw when it should arguably have been given to Roach. The referee failed to call a 10-8 round for Roach in round nine. Tank took a voluntary knee before going to his corner to wipe some grease from his face.

Will It Happen?

The referee’s failure to give the count meant Roach missed out on becoming the WBA Lightweight Champion, which would have made him a two-weight champ. Roach appealed the decision to the New York State Athletic Commission. However, the Commission upheld the original ruling, meaning there is a narrative in place for a rematch. And if the rematch does happen and Tank comes out with a win, then a fight with Paul could happen later down the line.

“Yeah, it was highly talked about and in negotiations, and almost ready to make it happen. But he has to do his rematch with Lamont and get that W. Then we’ll be able to run it back. But me and Gervonta were scheduled to fight, for sure,” Paul said
