Jake Paul Could Be Sued After His Fight Against Mike Tyson

Is a lawsuit coming after Friday night's fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson?

One sports lawyer believes that a lawsuit could be heading Paul's way, following his admission after taking down Tyson with relative ease. Paul, 27, admitted that he took it easy on Tyson, 58, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The former YouTube star turned boxer admitted after the fight that he probably could've knocked Tyson out, but chose not to. This could be a problem for Paul, considering how much money was bet on the fight.

Paul told reporters that he “didn’t want to hurt someone that didn’t need to be hurt.”

Paul was asked by reporters following the fight if he took his foot off the pedal.

“Yeah, definitely,” adding that he “wanted to give the fan’s a show.”

Dan Lust, a Sports Attorney at Moritt Hock & Hamrott and Law Professor at New York Law School, told the New York Post that a lawsuit could be coming.

“It wouldn’t shock me one bit to see a lawsuit filed on this fight,” he said.

The Paul vs. Tyson fight went the distance, but save for the first couple of rounds, there was barely any excitement. Tyson looked like he could barely stand up.

Paul admitted after the fight that he kind of carried Tyson.

“Yeah a little bit. There was a point where I was like ‘OK, he’s not really engaging back.’ And so I don’t know if he is tired or hurt or whatever, and I could just tell that his age was showing a little bit and I just have so much respect for him and that violence, war thing between us … kind of went away as the rounds went on," Paul said.

Given how much money was bet on the fight, including prop bets for knockouts, this could be a problem, Lust said.

“I watched the fight very closely, lines were skewing toward knockouts … because logically it would point toward ‘Tyson is too old to take a big punch’ or ‘Jake hasn’t felt someone with Tyson’s power,'” Lust said.

The sports lawyer thinks that a class action lawsuit could be coming from sports gamblers.

“Paul taking bows and not fighting to the last minute, the optics are just odd,” Lust said. “Would it shock me if there was a class action lawsuit? No. It’s not on me to form one but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one.”
