Jake Paul has issued a cease-and-desist letter to former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, with a lawsuit reportedly on the way.

The issue was ignited after Wilder publicly questioned the legitimacy of Paul’s fight against Anthony Joshua, suggesting the matchup could be “scripted.” Wilder voiced his doubts during an interview, citing the massive gulf in experience and physical size between the two fighters. Joshua is a two-time unified champion who has faced legends like Wladimir Klitschko. Paul, while 12-1, is still widely viewed by purists as a cruiserweight prospect. Wilder pointed out that this is the first time Paul is facing a truly elite, active heavyweight in his prime. “The Problem Child” didn’t take the allegations lying down.

Reaction

“I think it’s scripted a little bit because of the weight difference, and Joshua is a former champion. Also, he’s currently active. This is the first time we’re seeing Paul against an active fighter,” Wilder said

“I give them a cease and desist letter through their door. Then the lawsuit is coming right after because these people will not stop lying. “I honestly take it as a compliment, but people need to shut the f*** up. As for Deontay Wilder, he’s been hit a lot by Tyson Fury, so he’s clearly not the smartest guy. “There’s nothing in the contract, AJ can attest to it that we’re going to war. At the end of the day, that’s what all of my fights have been like,” Paul stated

Joshua Responds

This isn’t the first time Paul has battled fight-fixing narratives. In 2023, a fake “leaked script” circulated online before his fight with Tommy Fury, predicting a last-round stoppage win for Paul. Those rumors were instantly debunked when Paul lost a split decision. Joshua also denied any suggestions that it was scripted.

“Yeah, nothing in the contract. What can I say? We’re not worried about what opinions there are, whether it’s Wilder, Fury, whoever. The only thing in the contract that got my attention was the money. Other than that, I don’t worry about nothing else,” Joshua
