Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs) shined on November 9 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, blowing away Pedro Guevara (42-5-1, 22 KOs) by third-round TKO. The win saw “Bam” retain his WBC super flyweight title. Attention quickly turned to what could be next for the unbeaten San Antonio native.
“Bam” was in imperious form once again as he stopped Pedro Guevara in the third round, successfully retaining his WBC super flyweight title. It wasn’t just the victory, it was the way “Bam” won that was most impressive. His stock is rising every fight, and 2025 looks set to be a memorable year for the world champion. When speaking to The Stomping Ground Rodriguez spoke about the future: “I have maybe two more fights here at this weight class.”
He continued: “Then [I] move on up. Any unification fight at 115lbs [would be great].” Rodriguez added: “[But then I’ll] just get some fights at 118lbs. I can’t stay at 115 forver. If the fights don’t happen, I’ll have no choice but to move up [another division].”
The options for “Bam” appear vast with a potential huge fight in the U.S. or a major bout in Saudi Arabia on a Matchroom Riyadh Season card. The San Antonio fighter seems open to both options: “I would love to fight in my hometown of San Antonio,” he added. “Riyadh Season as well. Whatever Eddie has planned [for me], let’s do it,” said Rodriguez.
Following the win on November 9, Eddie Hearn reacted to the dominant victory: “Right now we need to see (Rodriguez) unify the division. He unified at flyweight. We want to see him unify at (super flyweight),” Hearn said.
“We’d love to take him out there (to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) for a mega fight. If we can’t unify I believe ‘Chocolatito’ is the fight. (Rodriguez has) slayed all the legends in the division and ‘Chocolatito’ is an all-time great. But this young man is going to be around for a long, long time. Many divisions to win championships in, unbelievable talent.”
