Joe Joyce Plans To ‘Bash’ Up Filip Hrgovic

Joe Joyce (16-3, 15 KOs) has an explosive outcome in mind for the Filip Hrgovic (17-1, 14 KOs) fight.

‘Juggernaut’ is currently gearing up to face Hrgovic this weekend in Manchester. Desperate for a win after three out of his last four fights ended in losses, Joyce is confident as fight night inches closer. In fact, it feels like he wishes to send a message with the Hrgovic fight.

In conversation with Queensberry Promotions, he opened up about his preparations for the fight. “I’ve brought in team members that have brought me success in the past. And training camp’s been really good, I’ve had great sparring, and I’m feeling good and I’m ready to bash Hrgovic up,” he said.

Joyce’s plan was simple yet focused, “bash” Hrgovic up and continue on his journey to become a world champion. However, this obviously raises questions in the minds of fans about whether Joyce can actually decimate Hrgovic like he plans to, mostly owing to his recent streak of disappointing losses. And the Derek Chisora fight in July added to an already gaping wound. But it surely looks like Joyce has sights laser-focused on victory, a rather explosive one at that.

“Yeah, he’s a tough fight. He’s good. But I’ve had a great camp, and I’m feeling great, ready, hungry. And yeah, I’m ready to do the business,” he said. “He’s quite high up in the different belts. You know he’s quite highly rated, so he’s a great name to spring me back up to the top.”

“Well Beaten”

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, however, isn’t very confident in Joyce’s potential performance against Hrgovic. Talking to the Stomping Ground, Hearn hinted that Joyce might be the one getting decimated during the fight.

“He had a very close fight with Derek Chisora in his last fight. Without the knockdown, it would have been very close,” he said. “He can whack; he’s got a great chin, but as his career has progressed, the punch resistance has changed. Shots that hurt him against Chisora would never have hurt him before. The thousands of rounds of heavy sparring have been a problem. If you want a prediction, he will be well-beaten on Saturday, and it will be inside three or four rounds.”
