Johnny Fisher (13-0, 11 KOs) and Dave Allen (23-7-2, 18 KOs) will face each other once again in a 10-round heavyweight contest.
Their bout headlines a Matchroom Boxing card at the Copper Box Arena in London, England. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live on DAZN. Fisher and Allen previously fought in December last year in Saudi Arabia, with the former winning via a controversial split decision.
Ahead of their May 17 rematch, both men spoke at a press conference. Below is some of what they had to say.
“It’s been good this time,” said Fisher. “Relaxing in-between sessions in Fuerteventura, a great training camp out there with Mark [Tibbs] and Sonny [Cannon]. Couple of good sparring partners. I’m looking forward to put on a show for everyone at the Copper Box. One thing’s for sure, when I get that crowd behind me, I am what I am. I go in there and it’s gonna be a tear-up. So, as much as I can train other ways and do this, I’m gonna go toe-to-toe and there’s not much choice I have in that matter because that’s the way I’m wired.”
“This is probably the first fight I’ve ever looked forward to, really,” said Allen. “From starting out as a kid, I really didn’t want to box, but I wanted to box more than I wanted to go to work, really, to be honest. I went to the boxing gym like medad did and found myself doing alright and before you know it I’m boxing Dillian Whyte, Luis Ortiz. It became unenjoyable…Something just clicked that night [against Fisher]. I don’t know what it was. It clicked on the way to the ring and I really enjoyed the 10 rounds we had…I’ve never actually looked forward to a fight. This one can’t come quick enough…”
Allen was able to take advantage of Fisher’s weaknesses in their first meeting, even knocking him down in round five. Though Fisher had his hand raised in the end, others felt that his opponent had done enough to win. Going into this fight, however, Allen seems much more motivated. He has even said as much. This could very well end up like the first clash, except with Fisher tightening up his defence a bit more and avoiding getting dropped. That being said, Allen appears to have figured out how Fisher can be beaten. Expect him to finally get the decision this time.
