Joshua Buatsi vs. Zach Parker fight recap

Joshua Buatsi (20-1, 13 KOs) got the victory against Zach Parker (26-2, 18 KOs), although the decision will likely be unpopular among boxing fans.

While one judge had the 10-round light heavyweight bout 95-95, the other two saw it 96-94 for Buatsi. Although the Olympic bronze medalist had his hand raised in the end, he struggled throughout the contest and did not appear to have done enough to earn the majority decision win.

It was a battle of the jabs early on with both men staying at range of each other. Buatsi pressed forward, but Parker ensured there was distance between them by moving off his back foot. Eventually, clinching became frequent. Buatsi struggled to land much of note, allowing his opponent to box him from a distance when the pair were not clinching.

Parker continued to land the cleaner shots between the two. Although Buatsi was pressing forward, he did little offensively and nothing he did was cause for concern for his opponent. Parker’s offence was not that great either, but it was getting the job done. Despite Buatsi’s lacklustre performance, two judges saw him winning in the end. Parker will definitely feel hard done by the scorecards as he had been doing the better work over 10 rounds.
