Anthony Joshua is expanding his global profile outside the sport of boxing amid the news that he could secure an investment in Watford City Football Club.

Joshua is one of the most lucrative fighters to have ever entered the sport, with reports that his net worth exceeds $200 million. He has also backed up his brand in the ring, as he is a former Unified Heavyweight Champion of the World. While he may not be in the best form of late, having gotten stopped by Daniel Dubois in his last fight, Joshua has shown that he can still sell out stadiums.

There is increasing speculation that he could face Tyson Fury if the latter comes out of retirement. Joshua is currently out injured and will undergo elbow surgery with a view to returning in December. In the meantime, he is making moves outside of the sport. Joshua revealed that he is looking to invest in Watford City, who are currently in the Championship, one division below the Premier League.

People from non-football backgrounds have shown that they can be successful when they invest. Ryan Reynolds famously invested in Wrexham City Football Club. He took the club into the second division, becoming the first team to win three promotions on the spin.

Joshua Reacts

Joshua has a close connection to Watford. That is where he grew up, having developed his boxing skills, which eventually made him one of the biggest boxers in the world. And now he has revealed that he is keeping his fingers crossed over a potential new investment.

“We wanted to move into private equity and venture capital funds. Rather than spending recklessly, I’m trying to invest in assets — and Watford was one of the opportunities that came up. Nothing has happened yet, but it’s a serious investment. If it works out, it should go well. If they return to the Premier League, I might even need to open a shop on Market Street — the number of people coming to Watford would be amazing. I’m not the biggest football fan, but I’ve always loved seeing the fans walk down Market Street to Vicarage Road. Great scenes. If I don’t end up investing, I still wish them all the best — they’re a good team,” Joshua said
