Julio Cesar Chavez said Edwin Rosario is the heaviest hitter he fought

On November 21, 1987, Julio Cesar Chavez challenged Edwin Rosario for the WBA lightweight championship inside the Las Vegas Hilton in Nevada, USA.

‘El Gran Campeón Mexicano’ dominated the contest, landing blistering combinations to both head and body.

By the eleventh, Rosario was bleeding from his nose and mouth, had a swollen left eye, and a cut above his right.

Showcasing his finish instincts, Chavez backed his foe into the corner and unleashed thunderous shots that forced the champion’s coach to throw in the towel.

However, while Rosario didn’t win the fight, he did earn his rival’s respect, with Chavez naming the Puerto Rican as the biggest hitter he ever faced.

In an old interview with The Ring Magazine, he said: “Anywhere he hit me, it hurt.

“Frankie Randall was also a hard puncher. [Against Rosario] it was my youth, it was the fact I was in my prime, it all helped me get through that fight.”
