Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) is currently on a quest to move up to welterweight to face Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) at 145 lbs. While it was recently reported that the Lopez vs Haney negotiations fell through, ‘The Takeover’s plans to move up in weight haven’t gone down well with his perpetual bully Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KOs), who is certain that he is avoiding him out of fear.
In a conversation with FightHype, Davis, who is gearing up for the first defense of his WBO lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos at Scope Arena in Norfolk on June 7, urged that Lopez has moved up in weight only because he is scared of facing him.
“Teo is so f*cking scared of me. He wants to move up to 147 because he knows I’m on his a*s,” he said.
Davis has been long eyeing a fight against Lopez and has not missed a single opportunity to call him out or create drama at his events. However, this constant pursuit seems to have taken a toll on him.
One could say that Davis is to blame for the fight not materializing, mainly due to his lack of interest in moving up from 135 lbs. Meanwhile, Lopez, being the ambitious fighter that he is, has persistently set sights on the welterweight division. However, Davis still stands firm in his belief that Lopez is ducking him.
“I can’t keep chasing people. At this point, I don’t want to keep bullying him,” he said.
Meanwhile, there seems to be trouble in paradise. The highly anticipated Lopez vs Haney showdown was proposed to take place on August 16 in Riyadh. While it was initially announced that the fight was a done deal, it now looks like the negotiations have fallen through.
And with the failed negotiations, Haney wasted no time in taking to X to express his disappointment.

& I wanted the fight at 147 he wanted the fight at 140 we negotiated to meet at 145 even though he was willing to fight boots at 147

In a follow-up tweet, Haney revealed that the duo wasn’t able to reach an agreement on the fight weight, which he found surprising as Lopez was ready to fight Jarron Ennis at 147 lbs.
