Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is all set to fight for Isaac Cruz’s (28-3-1, 18 KOs) WBC interim super lightweight title at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on December 6. With barely a day left for fight night, Roach isn’t just looking for the belt; he is looking to unleash total decimation.

Talking to Fight Hub TV, Roach opened up about how he plans to defeat his opponent on fight night.

“Mentally, in my mind, I see myself being controlling and doing the things that I have to do that we worked on in camp to neutralize ‘Pitbull’ and eventually take over in the fight,” he said.

Roach has his mind set, but there might be a few factors he has overlooked. While it is true that Cruz has major flaws in his defence, the fact that he has a chin that remained indestructible even against the likes of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

And, talking about their common opponent, Davis, it is also worth noting that Roach was the only fighter Davis was unable to beat in the professional ring. Roach, on the other hand, is not letting that get to his head, instead choosing to acknowledge Cruz’s style of fighting and staying prepared to face the best version of him.

“Styles make fights. Every fight is different because every opponent is different. So, we just have to get in there and see. I’m prepared for the best ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. I’m prepared for it to be a challenge. I’m very in tune with myself. I’m very in tune with the world of boxing,” he said. “I’m very accepting that just because I’m in the ring doesn’t mean anyone is going to take it lightly.”

“He’s A Little Too Tough”

While he is confident in his performance, Roach certainly isn’t underestimating the dangers of stepping into the ring with a fighter of Cruz’s calibre. Talking to the Ring, he mentioned that he will be focusing on tightening his defences and timing.

“The advantage that I might have is the fact that he’s a little too tough. He’s gonna take a lotta chances, run into a lotta shots, a lotta things that I think will be dangerous for him. I have a very watchful eye,” he said. “In between those shots after a big miss, those are the things that we’re gonna capitalize on.”
