Lamont Roach and his team have expressed their feelings after learning the New York State Athletic Commission's (NYSAC) decision on the review of the fight against Gervonta Davis.
The NYSAC ruled to uphold the majority draw in his March 1 WBA lightweight title fight against Gervonta Davis.
Roach’s attorney, Gregory M. Smith, made it clear to ESPN that while the fighter is frustrated by the decision, he remains grateful for the public’s support.
“Lamont and his team remain disappointed by the announced outcome and the lack of action by the commission, but grateful for the support of the boxing public,” Smith told ESPN. “Lamont is confident that a rematch will end with a victory, but until then he is the people’s champion at 135 pounds.”
The NYSAC’s ruling confirmed that referee Steve Willis made an incorrect call when he failed to rule a knockdown in the ninth round when Davis took a knee after being hit by Roach.
However, as boxing promoter Eddie Hearn predicted ahead of the official announcement, the commission ultimately decided not to overturn the result.
The NYSAC cited the fact that the fight continued for three more rounds and that both fighters adjusted to the original ruling, saying that ruling otherwise would have turned a "misplaced conjecture."

Roach (25–1-2, 10 KOs) and his team had filed an official protest in an effort to either secure the win or have Davis disqualified for the incident.
Had the knockdown been counted, Roach would have won via decision, a result that would have made him a two-weight world champion. Instead, the ruling allows Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) to retain his WBA lightweight title.
