WBA, WBC, IBF, IBO, and Ring Magazine welterweight champion Lauren Price will headline against her WBA mandatory Stephanie Pineiro Aquino on April 4.
The fight will take place from the Utilita Arena in Cardiff, as Price makes her homecoming. In what will be the first time a Welsh woman has headlined a boxing event on the BBC, Price knows a win takes her a step closer to boxing the WBO Welterweight Champion Mikaela Mayer for the Undisputed Welterweight Title.
Price secured a big win over Natasha Jonas in March 2025 to unify the 147 division in her last fight. As for Aquino, she is the current holder of the WBA interim belt. Her current record stands at 10-0, but this will be her first professional bout outside of Puerto Rico.
“Defending my world titles at home in Wales means everything to me. I want to repay the support everyone has shown me with another great performance. “I never turn down a challenge. Stephanie Pineiro Aquino is a dangerous fighter, but nothing is going to stop me from getting my hand raised on April 4 in Cardiff,” Price said
“Lauren may have the home fans on her side, but I have a country behind me too,” Aquino said. “I am coming to take those belts back to Puerto Rico,” Aquino revealed
“Lauren Price is not just a world champion, she is a Welsh sporting icon and one of the greatest athletes the country has ever produced. “To bring a huge world title defense home to Cardiff for her, live on BBC Two, is something we’re incredibly proud of. This is a serious test against a top-class opponent but these are exactly the nights Lauren thrives on. April 4 will be another massive moment for her,” Ben Shalom
Price’s approach is built on good footwork and blistering hand speed. Price’s primary goal in this fight will be to control the tempo from the center of the ring. She often uses her right hook—a weapon that was particularly effective against Jonas—to disrupt her opponent’s rhythm and set up flurries. As a southpaw, she utilizes angles to neutralize her opponents’ reach.
Aquino’s approach will center on breaking Price’s rhythm. To win, Aquino will need to close the distance and force Price into a “slugfest” rather than a technical boxing match. Her strategy will likely involve high-pressure “cutting off the ring” tactics to limit Price’s movement and land heavy power shots to the body, aiming to slow down the Welsh champion.
